How to join
Elections
• Elections are held in October each year in schools and youth groups
• Every Secondary School in the Borough of Dartford is
entitled to send five
Members, selected by ballot, to serve on the DYC.
• Every Youth Club / Organization in the Borough of Dartford is also entitled to send two members.
• Membership is now for 2 years, but members can stand for
re-election in
subsequent years if they so wish.
• If you would like to join the DYC, speak to your school or youth group's DYC election handler stating that you are interested in joining the Dartford Youth Council. If you dont know who this is, then contact your head of year/house for information.
Opt-on
• If you happen to miss the election period, you may still be
able to join the DYC via an "opt-on" process. You will be able to visit
a DYC meeting and let the council know why you want to be on the DYC. A
short voting process will decide whether you will be able to become a
youth councillor or (rarely) not.
